Verge of a Dream: Nothing new

We don’t need
anything new.
Like an undated picture,
you in my arms,
that dress passed on
to your sister.
And that you
would stay
is gone too.
We didn’t need
to talk further.
Stopping in china town
for dinner.
You on my arm,
the late bus
passed on by,
like clouds that
you made disappear.
We never grew older.
You had your arm
round me,
over my shoulder.
Heroes honored
this weekend.
There’s nothing
to change.
I just spend time
Reminding myself,
how the words
that I am yours
are a memory
that has left too.

Verge of a Dream: You better get a lesson –

You better get a lesson
From up that hill
From up that hill (refrain)

It all came down
Came down on me
May still come down
On you too
Still come Down
on you too

refrain

Wrap your body up
Flake’s not cold but
Won’t be one alone
Look up that hill.
At a million coming
down

refrain

What someone wise said
Wise for sure
You better better
Take what happened
To me, see that
See all that
try to listen well

refrain

It can’t be easy
Whether you make
The bread or find
Yourself in line.
Its just the same
whether
a common
bramble vine or
a soul divine.

refrain repeated

Verge of a Dream: Advice

I’ve heard it said
What seems like
Good instruction
be not attached
To things. So
maybe three
times or maybe
four.
Passed it on to
Titan yet there,
throughout
all my lifetime,
it was, and is,
in orbit,
next
To Saturn.
I’ve heard it said,
And sensible it may
Be.
to forge your
Own trail cause
Convention will not
Become
The mother of
Invention. Passed it
On to my captain
Who drew new plots
And graphs found
Board our
ship discovered
somewhere
Lost at sea.
I’ve heard it said
And it seemed
The path
Of progression
to do things better,
as a gift
to the next
Generation.
And now
mostly done with
Looking I wish
I’d followed
footsteps
That connected
Me and you
much
Less to now
and
more
moored my
life to then.

Verge of a Dream: without a promise

There is a pearly glow
On the fender fin.
You say you will fall in
love with me,
I wonder
when.
I think the equinox
is neither there or here.
You might wish to be
alone or
alone with me,
it’s never sure.

In a velvet
theatre,
I wonder as
the actors kiss
then part
if they look
into the dark
for two,
new in love,
and wish for
that too,
in their hearts.

Then you in
the gray screen
lifted from
time.
A ring or
me that wind
about your finger
which one it is
I don’t seem to mind.
Held, as I am
like
the rock, bearing
the sword until
you ride
a curve in space
to another whose
hope for your
true love,
ends in
place
he’ll find was
without
a promise

Verge of a Dream: I do not know —

I do not know the difference
Between one day and
Someday or if there is none.
I do know
it is when
all
consequences
will finally end,

I do not know the difference
Between acceptance and
love or if there is one.
Though
the gate may
close behind me
at eleven fifty nine
I do know
To take it and
Not to turn
It
down.

I did not know the difference
Between whats been true
And whats been waste
Though its clear
As a few years now
Have passed
That it will speed
Before me when
Neither it nor I
Will last.

Music: There must have been a place: by Peggy Turner Hogan

Music and lyrics modified from RLB….

There must have been a place
That was made for us
Are we living there, really living there
It’s so far off, I’ve never seen it before
Like another life, we’re all together
Teenage kids and a real small house.
There must have been a place
Where someone’s living that makes up for this
These iron thought can’t stop,
Always come up with you, oh why, oh why
There is a cottage in the valley
Or a wooded place where someone
Is pretending to be us, why, oh why
So we don’t go to waste
There must have been a place
There must have been a place

Never tell a lie: Music and lyrics by Thomas Arthur Turner

Music and lyrics

Here is a little suggestion and it might be hard to take
That’s if you are the type who is inclined to prevaricate.
It’s just a little psychology that every man should know
If he’s to be the perfect romeo so

Never tell a lie
Here’s the reason why
Someone might believe the things you say are on the level, darling
You might break a heart and that’s no way to start romance.
The things you say and do might thrill her through and through
But if you are on the sly I’m telling you you’ll make her cry, darling
That’s no way to do, before love starts you’re through.

So never never tell her that you love her
Unless it’s from the bottom of your heart
For there will come a time when she’ll discover
That your love for her was just a lark.

Then you’ll be alone by the telephone
All the girls will find you’ve been handing them a line now, darling
That’s the reason why it never pays to tell a lie.

Elliot’s Lullaby

Music and Lyrics to Elliots Lullaby

And now I lay my head to rest
All cuddled to my mommies chest
And she whispers softly in my ear
How their love brought me here.

And as my daddy holds us close
I know his love surrounds us both
And snuggled in their arms so tight
Each kisses me good night

Verge of a Dream: Graduation Night

Some things are real.
But I never saw you
In a low back dress
On what might
have been
A street lined with
Maples, houses
Not wanting pretense.
And with the prom
Tonight
I think the theme is
chiffon, You could be
My date. Except
you’ve never
Been known for
flounce or floating
around or chatting
in a circle about
the senior class
And what they’ll
Do in fall.
For all the things
I want to be real.
Nerves ignited
I never had my hand
Holding you when
They called
the slow dance.
For all the things
That could have
Been memories
So few are real.
Sitting next to you,
I can see the place
A hard bench,
A soft drink, hooking
From school, not
Single grace except
You, your brother’s
Creativity so
Brilliant I need
To turn away..or
then imagine
me a
White cane and cup.
It matters less what
Might be real,
it matters
More That when
at that turn point
that I might
Not see you when
It becomes
My graduation night.

Lullaby: for Corin M Miller

Music and lyrics.

Two special souls bound together
Blended in purpose and heart
Brought forth a wondrous new child
Corin, to treasure
Blessed beyond measure
Pepsi and Bringer of Light
Tending this new precious life.

With hope and with wisdom they’ll teach her
Mercy and grace will embrace her
Spirit of goodness abound
Love will surround
Peace will be found
Tenderly calming her strife
Guarding her new little life.

I wrote this 11 (2011) years ago for an as yet unborn Corin M Miller, who is almost 11 now. I wasn’t sure if she would ever know it existed. Technology has changed so much that a performance video can at least remind her that grandma M loves/loved her when she has her own grandkids.
